Google Plus – A Threat to Facebook?

by Kelly on August 9, 2011

… And in comes another social network, just like the other one? Lets have a look and you can see for yourself if Google Plus has the potential to take over Facebook.  Facebook, has over 750 million active users worldwide, including nearly 2 million of those active users in New Zealand; so if Google Plus can knock it off its perch that is big news!

It should be emphasised that right now, Google Plus is still in its trial phase and to join, you need to receive an invite via email from Google. You can request an invite here.

Google + has experienced insane growth… On July 14, 2011, Google announced that Google+ had reached 10 million users, just two weeks after it was launched in a ‘limited’ trial phase (HREF 1). After 4 weeks in operation, it had reached 25 million users (HREF 2). Is it just a novelty though? Lets take a closer look…

This video is a great watch to learn in a nutshell what Google Plus is all about:

Please see below for a detailed breakdown of what Google Plus offers compared to Facebook:

Fox News suggests that if we look at social behaviour, some Facebook users have been on Facebook for as long as 7 years and may simply need a change… And what is it they say about the 7-year itch?

While Google has a lot of products that it can integrate into Google Plus, Facebooks add-ons are minimal. But what about Google Plus and its Social Media Marketing application for business? I guess we’ll just have to wait for them to roll out their business profiles… Watch this space.

What are your thoughts Google +?  We’d love to hear them, please post in the comment box below.
